Skater for the Killbillies since 2008

Sin is valuable to NWA both on and off the track. When she is not being a sneaky blocker, Sin is responsible for making NWA look great. All online presence, bout programs, posters, commercials, uniforms, and radio appearances are just some of the amazing things that she takes care of for NWA. She is one of NWA’s most improved skaters largely due to rarely missing any NWA events. We simply wouldn’t know where we would be without her!

Sin owns her own web and graphic design business called Mockingbird Creative. In June 2009, she married NWA Roller Derby head coach, Captain Jay. Together, Sin and Jay travel all over the US to watch roller derby games. When at home, Sin is the mommy to two black cats, Opal and Alabaster.

Congratulations Sin, NWA Skater of the Month for May!

NWA Roller Derby on KNWA

Local news reporter, Ben hits the rink with the Arkansas Killbillies and does his best to keep up as the ladies practice for their next smackdown.

Sisterly Smackdown Review

On Saturday, April 24, the Oklahoma Victory Dolls traveled to Fayetteville, AR to skate against Northwest Arkansas Roller Derby’s Killbillies. In their last face-off, Northwest Arkansas emerged victorious with a score of 165-46. This game proved to be a much tougher match consisting of multiple lead changes.

Northwest Arkansas started off with a quick lead, but it was quickly followed by lots of trips to the penalty box. T Pain’s jamming in jam 7 for OKVD gave a one-point lead for the Victory Dolls, bringing the score to 26-27. Over the next two jams, the lead changed two more times. In Jam 9, Party Pants scored 15 for OKVD giving a score of 34-46. NWA’s blockers starting stepping up the defense including some big hits from Blackzilla and tough positional blocking by Apache Rose.  Killbilly jammers dominated the final 8 jams of the first half, gaining lead jammer status and stifling Oklahoma’s jammers’ scoring. At halftime the score was 81-67 in favor of Arkansas.

The second period started with NWA gaining a bigger lead followed by heavy defense. The third jam featured NWA’s The Professional scoring an unanswered 15 points to lengthen the lead to 104-67. NWA kept a definite focus on defense from this point on. OKVD’s blockers were strong featuring the quick bursts of Jen A Tease and intensity from Sally Strychnine. It was never enough, however, to hold off the simultaneous scoring and defensive jamming by JoAnn of Arc. The final score was 137-110.

NWA’s next bout is in Fayetteville, AR against the Dallas Derby Devils. OKVD will be playing in Oklahoma City on May 15th.

Skater Of The Month

Member of the Backwoods Betties Since February, 2010

Anger is one of NWA’s newer skaters but has already proven herself to be a tough woman ready to take on any challenge.  Her hard work at practice and various roller derby events is paying off, and she is improving at an exponential rate. Currently, she is known for catching other skaters off-guard and sending them into the air… literally.

Anger Management is a corporate chef for Simmons Foods. She and her boyfriend Darwin are opening a Japanese restaurant in May. She has also adopted a ferocious Chihuahua named Roscoe. Besides derby, she also loves square-foot gardening. Anger is a key role behind the scenes, as well. She has provided food for after parties and volunteers at bouts she is not skating in.

Anger’s motto: “Fall 7 times, pick yourself up 8.”

Congratulations Anger Management!

Sudden Impact Success!

Another great bout was held at our home, Starlight Skatium this past Saturday featuring the Backwoods Betties and our guests the ICT Roller Girls from Wichita, KS. ICT took the win at 172 to 119 against the Betties, but both sides fought hard the entire game, making for a very exciting bout for Starlight’s packed house.

It was the first bout for several of the Betties and they looked great. Newcomers Anger Management, Buzz Bomb, Diabla Piquena and Brunette Threat held their own in their first dose of derby, while crowd favorite Queen LeTeachya, once again stepped onto the rink and brought the thunder after coming back from a long leave. NWA is sure happy to have her back.

Thanks and congratulations to ICT for coming all the way to NWA. And thanks to our fans!

Cannonball is a very talented derby athlete, who works hard each week to better her game. Cannonball transferred to NWA from the Springfield Rollergirls. She quickly proved herself as one of  NWA’s strongest and most effective blockers. Cannonball’s eccentric personality is also a valuable part of who she is to us! She is known how to have fun where ever she goes, she’ll always make sure you are having a blast!! Her attitude makes her a great motivator to her teammates and NWA fans. After the game, Cannonball is usually found getting the party started on the dance floor. We heart our Cannonball #C4 !

Cannonball is the mother of the adorable Lily. Cannonball’s parents are avid NWA Roller Derby fans and can usually be found cheering at the games.
