Though I couldn’t understand a damn thing I somehow knew that I loved it. Also, one of my junior derby girls, Horcrux. She is *the* quietest, shyest, most soft-spoken of the lot, but she works diligently with the kind of focus I am trying to cultivate for myself, with patience and determination. I love that kid! Lextacy

Name: Lextacy Nickname: Lex or Lexy What’s the origin of your name? After months and months of deliberation on what would be the best derby name, I finally came back to one that both my derby wife, Cosmic, and my girlfriend had suggested from the get-go. And it’s a play off my real name, so why not? Number: 42 What does your number mean? It’s the answer. The big one. The answer to life, the universe and everything. (And for anyone who isn’t a super nerd, it’s from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.) Team: I was on the Pistol Whips in my first season, and now I’m really proud to skate with the ladies of NWARD B-Team. What position do you play? Blocker. Usually inside or back. How long have you been skating? Since January 2010, I think. When did you join derby? I joined league on 10-10-10 How did you get involved in derby? Buzz Bomb talked me into going to practice one day. I didn’t think it would really be something that I enjoyed, but that feeling of being able to fall over and over again and just get up and shake it off was really amazing. And after I found a fresh meat partner (Cosmic) I knew I was in for good. What role do you play behind the scenes? I’m involved in events committee and recruiting new skaters. I also coach Jr. Derby. Pre-bout ritual: Relax, drink a lot of water and stretch. Motivational quote: Never stop moving. I don’t really mind any of the penalties, to be honest. Backblocking is kind of frustrating sometimes, but I can see why that penalty is there. What advice would you like to give up and coming derby players? Run. A lot. And then don’t stop. Skating all the time is great, but it really helps your stamina to have that time doing cardio activities off skates. Aside from that, practice, practice, practice (and not just at practice. At home, too.). Where are you from? North Little Rock, mostly. How long have you lived here? Since 2008. What keeps...
